I know that for the last week you have all been wondering, "Where could Ben's thoughtlet be?" Well, never fear, I am back in action. Sorry I missed last week. I realized yesterday that I had skipped a week on my planner for when I was writing these, and so I missed last week, and I missed yesterday because my grandpuppies were being born. (more on this later). So, I am going to go back three weeks, and just start from the beginning. It has been rather eventful.
The day after I wrote my last thoughtlet, I went to a career presentation for American Airlines. It seems like an extremely exciting job. I have a friend who works in the position they are hiring for, and I have talked with him quite extensively about what the job entails, and it looks promising. But at the presentation, I won a free round trip ticket to anywhere in the 48 mainland states. Pretty cool, huh? My friend is going to get Sarah a ticket, so we will have a free round trip ticket. We were thinking about going to visit Roice (If that's okay with you) or going to the reunion with Grandma Jackson. Hopefully, if I get a job with them, I will be able to do both, because I will get extremely discounted tickets.
The rest of the week was kept busy with schoolwork, especially during the weekend, because the next week was a big one. I had two tests, a presentation, and the career fair was going on that week in the college of business.
Well, I studied and got high B's on both of those tests and an A on the presentation. I also went and talked to American Airlines at the career fair and got promised an interview. (more on this later) On Friday, I drove to Fort Worth for the day to meet with a job search firm that specializes in accountants and finance people. They interview and test all their people before they look for jobs for them, and so I went down and got tested. They seemed impressed, but that could mean nothing. The good news is that they have already got me an interview with Primeco (a cellular phone company), for next Wednesday. I spent Friday with my friend Mike (the one who works for American Airlines), and got to meet some of his friends that work with him. It was a pretty good weekend. I got back on Saturday, and spent the rest of the weekend studying for next week, which was also a big week. (two more tests, a quiz, and a career presentation with another company.)
On Monday of the next week, I found out that American Airlines did not grant me an interview at the career center. I was very perplexed by this, because the guy at the career fair pretty much told me I would be granted an interview. Well, I called my friend to see if he could find out what was going on. He called back the next day and informed me that the career center never sent my resume to American Airlines, and that is why I got denied an interview. Well, needless to say I was a little distraught by this. So, we've worked it out to where I would try and fill in an empty space on the list while they are on campus if I can, and if not, we would do a phone interview or they would fly me up to Fort Worth for an interview. I can't tell you how glad I was that that worked out.
The first three days of the next week were rather normal. I spent the time at work, in school, or studying. And then on Thursday, I had my two tests, my quiz, and my presentation all in one day. All went well though, I got an 84 on the first test, a 92 on the second (with a high score in the class of 93), and a 100 on the quiz. The presentation was interesting. It was with a consulting company in Irving. It seems like their recruiting requirements are too high for me though. I don't know if they are going to grant me an interview or not. We'll just have to wait and see.
On Friday, Sarah's parents came into town and we cooked them dinner. It was really nice and we had a lot of fun. Sarah and her mom talked about Sadie and her puppies, while her dad and me watched the Yankees beat the Texas Rangers in the playoffs. They left on Saturday to Dallas, and we got to keep their dog, Jack for the week while they are out of town. He is such a good dog. The rest of the weekend was spent waiting for Sadie to have her puppies and studying for the test I had on Monday.
Well, on Monday morning at 7:30, Sadie delivered the first of 8 puppies. Sarah and I stayed home from work and helped Sadie deliver. It was kinda crazy because I had very little sleep and was trying to help Sadie while getting some last minute studying in at the same time. Well, everything worked out. The puppies are all okay, Sadie's okay, and I think I did fairly well on my test.
Which brings us to today. As you can see, it's been fairly busy and exciting for Sarah and me. I hope everything is going good with everyone else. Sorry I was a week late. IF this week is exciting, I might write next week to keep on schedule or I might wait two weeks. You're just going to have to wait and see. Talk to ya later.
Love,
Ben
