A slightly different view is if we, as individuals, give God credit for the good things in our lives, then we must also give God responsibility for the pain and the suffering and the anger and the hurt and the death and the destruction accompanying one of His/Her storms. However, probably a majority of scientists will say there was a low pressure anomaly which formed in the mid-Atlantic, which, at these latitudes, resulted in a counter-clockwise spin of the air mass due to the Corilois Effect3.128 associated with the rotation of the earth, and these two swirling atmospheric anomalies grew and tightened and traveled across the Caribbean Sea until they reached landfall at New Orleans and then just east of Beaumont, Texas a few weeks later. In other words, in these scientist's opinions, the storms were a natural phenomenon, and had nothing to do with the supernatural, any more than believing it is Zeus or Thor who throw down lightening bolts during a thunderstorm has any basis in fact.

It seems to me some religious folks could take a lesson in non-assignment of blame from scientists with regard to this type of a practical view of natural processes.

Going back to the personal experience with the two 2005 hurricanes: as we congratulated ourselves on doing a good job on helping clean up Katrina, Rita kept coming towards Houston. One of our church leaders called and asked me to be a Team Leader to make sure a dozen families in our congregation were prepared, and to find out if there was anything any of these families needed. Work was not normal on Wednesday. About 10:00 AM the president of our company said to close down the office, and that there would be no work on Thursday or Friday. The building wanted everything important moved from outside offices, like mine, to hallways or internal offices. They provided big sheets of thick plastic. I moved my computers and wrapped my filing cabinets and book cases with plastic, and headed out for home.

Wednesday evening when I got to the house things really started to get hectic. I had not been able to get hold of three of my assigned people. My wife and I went out and visited each home to make sure they were ready, and we never did find one individual. Then we started to take care of our house. Since there was this giant storm the television was showing was headed straight for Houston, we had decided to go to a niece's wedding in Utah. We knew we would not get out of the Houston airports, and so we planned to drive over to Austin and fly to Salt Lake City.
