State-of-the-art geotechnical solutions emerge from immersive environments
Immersive Environments are a new type of human-computer interface.
In this computer generated `virtual' or `synthetic' world humans are able to:
- extend their memory to encompass computer storage,
- jump between spatial locations,
- step through geologic processes across time,
- and evaluate the same spatial frameword from different states,
(switching from geology to geophysics to engineering to other geotechnical representations).
Immersive Environments are a new type of media.
Because virtual visualization technologies are immature,
it will be most cost effective to start by
translating traditional tools to immersive environments of
those applications which have a significant economic impact.
Although the new media will eventually include all existing E&P software tools,
the first geotechnical solutions to emerge will be state-of-the-art.
