Hypermedia technology allows the user to build relationships among various media types,
such as:
• Text.
• Diagrams.
• Moving Diagrams (animation).
• Images.
• Moving Images (Video, CD ROM, etc.).
• Speech.
• Sound.
• Other Computer Programs.
To navigate through these various types of media, "hotspots" are used to indicate that
there is a "link" from the current "node" (a self-contained piece of information, such
as a page of text, a photograph, a sound segment, etc.) to another associated node of
interest. These nodes of interest could be any of the above media types, or combinations
of the above. This allows the user to relate large amounts of data of various media
types - thereby allowing the user to apply meaning to the data, thus creating information.
