Seismic data are the principal source of information for geoscientists. Well log data and core data are limited by the expense of drilling. Consequently, the methods used for the prediction of the lithology and fluid content of a reservoir away from wells must rely on the interpretation of seismic data. The log and core data are used to calibrate the seismic.
Prediction accuracy is related to the quality of both the calibration and the seismic data. The quantity and proximity of the well data to the area of interest will determine calibration accuracy.
