[001]I make a record
[003]the Lord spake unto my father, yea, even in a dream
[004]it is a commandment of the Lord.
[005]the Lord hath commanded us to do this thing;
[006]I have obtained a land of promise
[007]a record of the Jews from the beginning,
[008]write of the things of God
[009]I have dreamed a dream
[010]an end of speaking the words of his dream
[011]the things which he saw in a vision

[016a]the voice of the Lord spake unto my father
[016b]the voice of the Lord came unto my father
[018]Do ye believe our fathers, which were the children of Israel, would have been led away out of the hands of the Egyptians, if they had not hearkened unto the words of the Lord?
[019]he leadeth away the righteous into precious lands, the wicked he destroyeth, and curseth the land unto them for their sakes.
[020]Ye are swift to do iniquity but slow to remember the Lord your God
[021]after we had prepared all things, much fruits and meat from the wilderness, and honey in abundance, and provisions according to that which the Lord had commanded us, we did all go down into the ship, with our wives and our children
[023]I, Nephi, did teach my brethren these things . . . I did read many things to them, that I might more fully persuade them to believe in the Lord their Redeemer . . . I did liken all scriptures unto us
[024]I have not spoken in secret; from the beginning
[025]I had read these things which were engraven upon the plates of brass
[026]how great things the Lord had done for them bringing them out of the land of Jerusalem
