Called Sara at the normal number, only to be told she is travelling and I sould call back next week. Then Andrea came in from her run and said their was an e-mail from Sara with another number to call. It was her friend Stephanie's cell phone. They were in Condie in the far north of Benin. Stephanie is going home for law school and her sister's wedding, and so Sara is going fly back through France with her. Stephanie will return to Chicago, and Sara to Houston, the first Saturday in April, 02 April 2004. She has been advised not to tell the Peace Corps until right before she leaves. She get's paid $225 per month for her time of service. She is not excited to tell them she is leaving. However, she is excited to meet Stephanie, and to have a chance to tour the northern part of Benin. They were suppose to go to an elephant preserve, but there were no elephants. She said: "Oh well!" I chuckeled. She is very excited to be back in time to go to Audrey's wedding. I told her that Audrey called last night, and said she would be glad to help with buddy passes from Austin to Salt Lake. Sara was very pleased with this news. The South of Benin is much more developed. Yet Save' does not have cell phones, and the place where she is now does have cell phones. She said it really surprised her, based on what she had seen on this trip. The cell phone did keep cutting out. I ended up calling back four times. Sara says she finished up her radio show. She has started to hand off her other projects to other people. Said she looks forward to my call in two weeks. I told her about Joe Menke's new restaurant, which I visited last Friday night. Also told her about the changes at I-10 and Fry Road. Mentioned the Jack-in-the-Box is all boarded up, and that I see an opportunity for her to set up a restaurant there. She said she wants to learn to cook first. I didn't realize I had raised her to be so practical. It was a good call, and she said she looks forward to my call in two weeks. |
