First call was at 5:00, as requested. Response: `Sara has gone out.' Then it was suggested that I call back in a half an hour or an hour. After being asked if there is a message, and based on the article in Sunday's paper, I said to tell her I am worried about her going through Togo to Ghana because of the uprising. The person who answered the phone said that the borders with Togo are opened now and Sara will be in Ghana in two days. This was not comforting. I told her I will call back in a half an hour. Second call there was no answer. Third call I was told I will have to wait a minute because she has another call. Told them I would call back in 20 minutes. Maybe I get frustrated too easily? Happy Valentines Day was the first thing I said. Sara said she was there when I called, and the operator just didn't call her. Oh well! We talked about the violence in Togo, and about her going through Togo to get to Ghana. And she told me why she is going to Ghana, making me promise not to tell anyone. So I can't write it, but I found it interesting. We talked about her being sick a lot. She said she hasn't had problems since I talked to her and since she got better from the 104 degree temperature. We talked about allergies for quite a while. She agreed with my thinking that it might be molds tied to the rainy season. Then she said she had some news for me, and it was very hard for her to tell me, but she was going to anyway. I braced myself for what was to come. Sara is coming home early! She is planning on returning on Easter Sunday so she could go to Church with me. I told her I will probably be in China. We talked about not finishing a commitment and how she knows how I taught her this is very important. She is going to finish all the projects she is working on. She is tired of being sick. And she is looking forward to coming home. Her room mates from college are very excited about her coming back. Roice and Sarah know already. I guess I am just too hard to pass news like this on to. I am glad to hear she will be out of the West Africian, HIV, French culture, environment. I would like to see her finish her commitment, and I'm glad she is going to finish all of her projects. It turned out to be a very good Valentines Day phone call. Especially when compared to all of the negative news options that have run through my mind over the last few months. |
